In September 2012 TIMA Charitable Foundation contributed to the inclusion of more families in the Social Housing project of the “ΣΥΝ ΣΤΟ ΠΛΗΝ” program. The foundation’s donation ensured the inclusion of the families in the program for one year, with the condition that there was an elder dependent member of the family under the same roof. The families -once becoming independent- left the program, leaving place for other families to enroll. A total of 16 families enrolled in the program and completed it successfully.
In March 2015, PRAKSIS with the support of TIMA Charitable Foundation started the implementation of the innovative program “Safe at Home” aiming to extend the stay of elderly people at home with safety and decency.
The acceleration of population ageing on a global, European and national level, places elderly care very high on the priority list. By 2050 elderly people around the globe will account for approximately 600 million people, an alarming fact highlighting among other things the need for restructuring healthcare systems and adjusting the care provided to the specific age group.
In Greece, in terms of population ageing and according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the number of elderly people tripled during the last 50 years and more specifically from 6.7% it accounted for in 1951 to 18.9% in 2010. This leads to an increasing need for innovative programs regarding elderly care. The goal is to secure autonomous and decent leaving to elderly people in their residence aiming at a better quality of life and a reduced use of healthcare services.
The goal of the program “Safe at Home” is to provide low-income solitary people over 65 years of age – living in their own residence – safety, security and general improvement of their stay through specific technical house interventions, by reducing for example the chances of indoor accidents and by preventing home burglaries.
In the interest of geographical diffusion, elderly residents in need of the Municipalities of Korydallos, Markopoulo, Agios Dimitrios and Athens have been selected for the pilot run of the program. During the six months of the pilot phase there were 25 beneficiaries.
Moreover, in August 2015 TIMA Charitable Foundation supported the extension of the program “Safe at Home” for 6 months. More specifically, technical house interventions took place in 50 houses of low-income solitary people over 65 years of age.
Also, in the framework of the program “POINTS OF SUPPORT” TIMA Charitable Foundation offered monetary donation for the creation of a handbook for older people which includes safety guidelines, directions of how to avoid accidents, as well as material of networking and socializing.
